OATS STUDIOS: VOLUME 1
Experimental Sci-Fi Horror from Oscar-Nominated Director Neill Blomkamp
Special Halloween Week Screening — The Dome Vancouver
This Halloween, step inside the world of Oats Studios — Neill Blomkamp’s underground anthology of dystopian nightmares and post-apocalyptic experiments. For the first time, these cult-favorite shorts are adapted for The Dome’s 65-foot immersive screen, presented in 10K projection and 20,000 watts of surround sound.
Blomkamp, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, built Oats Studios as a creative laboratory—where he could test the limits of science fiction without studio interference. The result is a raw, visceral collection of short films that blend horror, realism, and speculative technology into something uniquely unsettling.
Now those films take on new scale and intensity inside The Dome—a cinematic event designed for Halloween week.
From the Director of District 9
District 9 earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, for its unflinching vision of alien segregation and social collapse. With Oats Studios, Blomkamp continues that uncompromising streak—depicting a future defined by extinction, mutation, and moral decay.
Each short feels like a transmission from another world—brutal, plausible, and unforgettable.
Featuring Hollywood Icons
Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar) — leads the human resistance in Rakka, battling reptilian overlords in a ruined Earth.
Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, The Equalizer) — stars in Firebase, a supernatural war thriller set in the jungles of Vietnam.
Sharlto Copley, Carly Pope, and Kellan Lutz bring their own grit to these stories of survival and collapse.
The Shorts
Rakka (21 min) — Humanity enslaved by telepathic reptilian aliens. Sigourney Weaver leads the desperate resistance in a world ravaged by occupation. Blomkamp's brutal vision of alien invasion warfare where hope is scarce and survival demands everything.
Firebase (26 min) — A supernatural entity haunts American forces during the Vietnam War, bending reality and turning soldiers into horrific statues. Dakota Fanning stars in this psychological nightmare where the enemy isn't what it seems.
Zygote (22 min) — The perfect Halloween nightmare. Stranded in an Arctic research facility, two survivors must evade a grotesque creature that hunts them through frozen corridors. One of the most disturbing alien designs since The Thing—a nightmarish fusion of human bodies into a single hunting organism. You can't escape what's hunting you when it surrounds you in 360°.
Kapture: Fluke (7 min) — Alien technology meets corporate warfare in this glimpse at a dystopian future where conflict is captured and commodified.
ADAM: Episodes 2 & 3 (14 min) — A stunning CGI showcase following an amnesiac discovering his true nature in a beautifully rendered post-apocalyptic world. Unity Engine pushed to its absolute limits.
Gdansk (4 min) — A haunting medieval horror tale featuring a massive giant. Blomkamp's first venture into period horror with his signature effects mastery.
God: Serengeti / Chicago (7 min) — Dark comedy as two god-like beings watch over and manipulate civilizations with terrifying consequences.
Plus additional experimental content including the infamous black comedy parodies of Cooking with Bill and Bad President.
Plus other fragments from the Oats Studios archive—exploring corporate dystopia, failed evolution, and the end of human control.
Adapted for The Dome
These films were never meant to be safe. Now they’re projected across 65 feet of curved screen at 10K resolution, illuminated by 150,000 lumens, and powered by 20,000 watts of surround sound.
It’s not 360°, but the sense of scale is overwhelming. Every creature, explosion, and whisper fills the room.
Why It Belongs on a Dome
Oats Studios is more than a collection of short films—it’s a glimpse into the creative process of one of the most uncompromising directors in modern cinema. Free of producers and test screenings, these works exist in their rawest form: violent, intelligent, and fiercely original.
In The Dome, that intensity is magnified. The horror doesn’t just unfold—it surrounds you.
